International Enneagram Association
Ethical Guidelines
As an Accredited Professional Member of the IEA, I have formally agreed
to abide by a specific set of ethical guidelines. This is to assure students and
others of my commitment to act in the larger Enneagram community, and in
my own events, within certain useful and beneficial parameters. For
example, it is important to state clearly that work with the Enneagram is no
substitute for medical treatment, psychotherapy, legal advice, family
counseling, addiction recovery, business coaching, tech support, and
religious direction. In addition, it is vital to emphasize diversity and
inclusivity, and to create safe and inspiring spaces for study and practice.
What follows are the first two paragraphs of the relevant pages on
internationalenneagram.org. For more information I encourage you to visit
the site (see link below) and explore these ideas and guidelines for yourself.
“The Enneagram is a profound system for understanding human nature.
The IEA is a global membership and learning community dedicated to the
understanding and ethical use of the Enneagram as a powerful tool for
growth and transformation. IEA members range from seasoned professionals
to those discovering it for the first time. All IEA members agree to abide by
the IEA’s General Ethical Guidelines. In addition, those accredited by the IEA
have committed to uphold and support the Code of Ethics for IEA Accredited
Professionals.
By joining the IEA or seeking accreditation by the IEA, members and
professionals demonstrate their commitment to the IEA’s mission to support
the ethical use of the Enneagram. We encourage students and others
interested in learning or applying the Enneagram to seek out IEA Accredited
Professionals, Training Programs and Enneagram Schools, and we encourage
Enneagram teachers to seek to become IEA Accredited Professionals and
obtain IEA accreditation for their training programs and schools.”
