What is The Enneagram?

The Enneagram is a powerful gateway to self-awareness, the understanding of others, and spiritual transformation. It describes the structure and dynamics of nine archetypal personality types, showing the way to a more integrated and rewarding life. Originating from the Greek words ennea (nine) and grammos (a written character), the nine-pointed Enneagram symbol represents distinct strategies for relating to self, others and the world.

 

Each Enneagram Type has different patterns of thinking, feeling and acting that arise from a deep structure, inner motivation and unique worldview. As a tool for personal growth and spiritual development, the Enneagram fosters greater understanding through a universal language, one that transcends sexual orientation and gender, religious affiliation and spiritual experience, nationality and culture.

Why Study The Enneagram?

Determining our Enneagram Type, often with the help of a teacher, does not put us in a box, but rather helps us see the veils, biases and conditioning through which we usually experience the world. With this awareness, we can step outside of our habitual and limiting perspectives. Ideally, personality is an effective way to perceive, understand and respond to reality. However, challenges arise when our point of view and behaviors become outdated and rigid, and we get stuck on auto-pilot. By discovering what is motivating these hidden patterns we can lead more fulfilling lives and, by doing the personal growth work, connect to our True Nature or Essence.

 

Working with the Enneagram system can help us become more successful in all of our relationships. When we have a sense of what others are actually thinking and feeling, we become wiser and more compassionate.
